SIBM alumnus Neeraj Ghaywan’s feature film 'Homebound' has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars and has been shortlisted in the Best Foreign Language Film category by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (USA).

Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar, Provost, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, SIU has been bestowed with the esteemed Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRCOG), London, one of the highest international honors in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This distinguished recognition acknowledges Dr. Yeravdekar’s exemplary and sustained contributions to women’s healthcare, medical education, and public health, and his unwavering commitment to advancing global standards in clinical practice and academic leadership.

The Death Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was observed today at the Symbiosis Society’s Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum & Memorial. IAS Shri Naval Kishore Ram, Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) S. B. Mujumdar, Chancellor of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) and Founder & President of Symbiosis. On this solemn occasion, attendees reflected upon Dr. Ambedkar’s monumental contributions to the nation and his lifelong commitment to equality, social reform, and education. His ideals continue to inspire and guide the Symbiosis community in its mission of inclusivity and nation-building.

The Second Edition of the Symbiosis Film Festival (SFF) began on an inspiring note on 5 December 2025, hosted by the Faculty of Media and Communication under the aegis of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). The festival was inaugurated by Shri Madhur Bhandarkar, Padma Shri awardee and National Award–winning filmmaker, in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) S. B. Mujumdar, Founder & President, Symbiosis and Chancellor, SIU. The opening day featured an insightful masterclass by Mr. S. Nallamuthu, five-time National Award–winning filmmaker and Chairperson of the SFF Jury, followed by screenings of shortlisted films that highlighted creativity and powerful storytelling. The two-day festival continues to celebrate cinema, ideas, and the limitless spark of imagination through screenings, discussions, and interactions with eminent filmmakers.

Symbiosis Literary Festival (SLF) 2025

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) hosted the sixth edition of the Symbiosis Literary Festival (SLF) 2025. Organized by the Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (SSLA), the festival brought together a diverse group of thinkers, artists, and creators for a vibrant celebration of ideas. This year's theme, "Ink, Ideas and Inspiration," set the stage for engaging discussions spanning literature, cinema, art, and intellectual thought.
Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) & Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of External Affairs, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Book '200 Motivational Mondays' authored by Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Pro Chancellor, SIU was released at the hands of the Chief Guest Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) & Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of External Affairs during the Symbiosis Literary Festival (SLF) 2025 . The SLF 2025 continues its tradition of fostering intellectual discourse and celebrating the power of storytelling and creativity within the university community and beyond.


'Legendary Institution Builder Award 2025' Conferred on Prof (Dr.) S.B. Mujumdar, Chancellor, SIU

FICCI conferred Prof (Dr.) S.B. Mujumdar, Founder and President, Symbiosis Chancellor, Symbiosis International (Deemed University) with the prestigious 'Legendary Institution Builder Award 2025' at the 20th FICCI Higher Education Summit and Awards 2025.

This honour celebrates his visionary leadership and lifelong commitment to nation-building through education. From a humble beginning, Symbiosis has grown under his guidance into a globally respected university known for academic excellence, inclusivity, and innovation.

Dr. S.B. Mujumdar
LEADERSHIP

Prof. (Dr.) Shantaram Balwant Mujumdar (Founder & President)

Dr. S.B. Mujumdar is the Founder and President of Symbiosis – a multi-national, multi-lingual and multidisciplinary educational complex of repute. A distinguished academician and educationist, he is also the Chancellor of Symbiosis International (Deemed University).


Dr. Mujumdar was born on 31st July 1935 at Gadhinglaj, a Taluka in Kolhapur District in Maharashtra. He had his school education at Gadhinglaj and college education at Kolhapur and Pune. In his Master's Degree (M.Sc.) in Botany, he stood first class first with distinction in Pune University. He obtained his Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Microbiology from Pune University.


He joined Fergusson College, Pune as Professor and Head of Department in Botany which position he held for 20 years. He was a recognized post graduate teacher and a guide for Ph.D. students. He was a member of the Pune University's Executive Council, the Senate, Academic Council (for 14 years) and Chairman of the Board of Studies in Botany (for 9 years). He was also I.C.C.R's Foreign Academic Advisor in Pune University (for 7 years). He has published over 50 original research articles in several national and international scientific journals. He has authored several books on Life Sciences and has contributed over 200 articles on Science, Education and Youth Development. He has also been the Chairman of the Educational Wing of FICCI in 2005-2006.
