UNIVERSITY
Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) emerged from the visionary mind of Prof. (Dr.) S. B. Mujumdar, a renowned botanist, in 1971. Initially conceived as a haven for foreign students studying in India, Symbiosis has grown into a multifaceted institution rooted in the Vedic principle of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" – the world is one family. This philosophy resonates deeply with the university's mission of fostering international understanding through quality education.
The university attracts students from all Indian states and international students from over 85 countries. The university's qualified and dedicated faculty are committed to disseminating knowledge and transforming students into qualified, skilled, and responsible global citizens. SIU's strong academic reputation has led to its selection as a participating institution in the Government of India's "Study in India" Program.
SIU consistently ranks among top Indian universities in national (NIRF) and international (THE, QS) rankings. It boasts strong employer reputation and excels in fields like Business & Management and Social Sciences. Beyond academics, SIU has received prestigious accolades like the 2000-Watt Smart City recognition and the Asia Pacific Quality Label (APQL).
The University cultivates a dynamic research environment. Supported by government and industry, its faculty and Ph.D. students actively engage in research across diverse fields, including AI, medical imaging, and sustainability. Equipped with state-of-the-art labs and fostering international collaborations, SIU encourages innovation and entrepreneurship through initiatives like the Symbiosis Centre of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (SCEI).
In line with its commitment to Institutional Social Responsibility, SIU operates the Symbiosis Community Outreach Programme and Extension (SCOPE) Centre which has adopted 35 villages to provide healthcare, sanitation, waste resource management, finance & banking, digital literacy, legal counseling, and scholarships. Family Doctor Clinics, Mobile Medical Units, and Mobile Digital Literacy Vans cater to several villages around the university campus. As a Health Promoting University, the University has established the Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW) and the Symbiosis University and Hospital Research Centre (SUHRC) and centers like the Symbiosis Centre for Emotional Wellbeing (SCEW).
With its diverse programs, world-class faculty, and commitment to research and community engagement, the University continues to shape the lives of students and contribute to the betterment of society.
